Royals Farm Report: April 20

Ryan Stovall did his job on Wednesday

The Triple-A Omaha Storm Chasers on Wednesday thrashed their opponent, thanks to impressive production from their key middle-of-the-order hitters. Unfortunately, the Chasers were the system's only winner on the day. The Blue Rocks lost their second straight, while Kane County was swept away in a doubleheader. Read all about the day's minor league action inside.

Triple-A: Omaha 10, Memphis 4

W: Kevin Pucetas (2-0, 2.57)
HR: Mike Moustakas (2), David Lough (2)

Summary: If the Omaha Storm Chasers go on a ridiculously good run over the next several weeks, they might look back to Wednesday's contest as the beginning. Indeed, on Wednesday the Chasers' much-feared middle of the order produced its best performance of the season, as the 2-5 hitters – David Lough, Eric Hosmer, Mike Moustakas, and Clint Robinson – went a combined 9-for-15 with two home runs, two doubles, five walks, and five RBIs. Omaha evened its record while defeating the Redbirds, 10-4.

Omaha starter Kevin Pucetas earned his second win of the season, holding Memphis to three runs (two earned) over five innings pitched. Blaine Hardy took over in the sixth, and he and Steven Shell combined to hold the Redbirds to just one run on four hits with seven strikeouts over the final four frames.

Other Notes: In the third inning, Mike Moustakas – who now has an eight-game hitting streak – hit the first Storm Chasers home run in Werner Park history, a line shot that hit off the right field foul pole. Last season, he also hit the final home run in Rosenblatt Stadium history, a blast we recorded here…Eric Hosmer has now hit safely in nine straight games…David Lough has three straight multi-hit games, hitting .462 over his last 13 at bats while pushing his season average up to .321.

Next Game: Omaha (7-7) plays the third game of its four-game set against Memphis (4-9) on Thursday evening. Danny Duffy (0-0, 1.86) will make his third start of the season for the Storm Chasers.

High-A: Kinston 4, Wilmington 1

L: Tyler Sample (1-1, 2.02)
HR: Nick Francis (2)

Summary: A solo home run by Nick Francis provided all the offense for the Blue Rocks on Wednesday night in a 4-1 loss to the Kinston Indians. Wilmington managed just six hits against the Kinston staff as the Indians touched the Rocks starter, Tyler Sample, for two runs on seven hits in 5.2 innings. The K-Tribe also plated two runs off reliever Manauris Baez, who pitched the final 3.1 innings for Wilmington.

The only notable offensive performance by a Blue Rock was turned in by Alex McClure, who finished 2-for-4 with a double after starting the season 3-for-38 (.079). The red hot Rey Navarro finished 1-for-4.

Other Notes: McClure's 2-for-4 effort was his first multi-hit game this season…Nick Francis has hit safely in six consecutive games and has extra base hits in four of the last five.

Next Game: The first-place Blue Rocks (8-4) now travel to Winston-Salem for a four-game series against the Dash (6-6), which begins on Thursday evening. Justin Marks (0-0, 5.79) is slated to start for Wilmington.
