RC Players of the Month: April

The competition was fierce, but a pair of players stood a step above the rest in April. With May upon us, Royals Corner today takes a look at last month's top performances and assigns the RC Player of the Month Awards.

Not much more can be said about the month that Wilmington second baseman Rey Navarro just had. The 21-year-old destroyed Carolina League pitching in April, posting an incredible line of .416/.452/.649 with 12 extra base hits in 77 at bats. Navarro had 10 multi-hit games in 20 contests, and he ends the month leading both the Royals organization and the Carolina League in batting average and triples. The young Puerto Rican has been held hitless just three times this season.

April Pitcher of the Month

Danny Duffy ends April on a 15-inning scoreless streak. The young southpaw made four starts last month, posting a 0.90 ERA (best among all the organization’s starters) while fanning 24 batters and walking just four in 20.0 innings pitched. You’d never know, looking at his statistics, that April was his first month in the Triple-A Pacific Coast League. Indeed, the league as a whole is hitting just .194 against the 22-year-old flamethrower.
