Cards prospect Albitz pitches Gloves 4 Troops

Help St. Louis Cardinals minor league infielder Vance Albitz get baseball equipment to our troops overseas.

Haven't we all wished we could provide support for our overseas troops at risk each day while defending our freedom?

St. Louis Cardinals minor league infielder Vance Albitz is doing something about it.

The 24-year-old Californian, who finished the 2012 season with Double-A Springfield, has launched an initiative he calls "Gloves 4 Troops." Speaking with a member of our armed services, Albitz learned that gloves and baseballs are needed for recreation purposes by our troops far away from home.

Baseballs, gloves and cash are accepted. The latter is used for mailing the boxes of equipment overseas. His stated goal is to collect and ship 1,000 gloves by the start of spring training.

As soon as I learned about Albitz' program, which he runs through his website,, I donated.

In the video clip that follows, Albitz explains in his own words how Gloves 4 Troops works and how we can help. This is an initiative baseball fans everywhere should be able to get behind. Recommended Stories
