Baseball without Bubba.
Despite first-round draft pick Bubba Starling missing from the lineup, the Legends completed a three-game sweep against the Kannapolis Intimidators Wednesday afternoon.
Starling, batting .213 with four home runs and 17 RBI, was a late lineup scratch Monday and never saw the field during the series.
"Received word from Kansas City that Bubba is going to K.C. on Wednesday and will return to play on Saturday," Keith Elkins, director of broadcasting and media relations for the Legends, told RoyalCurve.com in an email Wednesday. "No other information is available at this time."
The Legends bats came to life in the last two games of the series, posting 6-1 and 9-2 victories to close out the series and move to 20-19 for the season.
Lightly-used third baseman Adrian Morales notched RBIs in all three contests, including a walk-off home run in the bottom of the 11th inning in the series opener Monday.
First baseman Fred Ford hit his third home run of the season to lead Wednesday's offensive surge, going 3-for-4 with two run scored and three RBI.
The Legends pitching was solid, as usual, getting good starts from reigning South Atlantic League Pitcher of the Week Bryan Brickhouse, Miguel Almonte and Christian Binford, while allowing just four Intimidator runs combined for the series.
