Prospect Watch: Robbie Erlin had a nice bounce-back start, giving up only three hits over six innings of work, though two went for solo homers. The lefty, who imploded to surrender 11-runs over two innings in his last appearance, turned in his first quality start since returning from the big league club. With Clayton Richard headed to the DL, it’s possible he will get another chance to see what he can do. … Jonathan Galvez quietly continues his strong season, going 2-for-3 with a homer and two stolen bases. After being hobbled by a pair of leg injuries for much of last year, the 22-year-old infielder has found his legs again in 2013, swiping 16 bases in 20 attempts. The homer was just his second extra-base hit of the month, a rather alarming power outage for a guy who will have to be carried by his bat.

Midland Rock Hounds 10 San Antonio Missions 1

The Missions were completed dominated by Oakland’s affiliate Friday night. Left-handed slugger Johan Limonta collected three of the club’s six total hits, including an RBI double in the eighth inning to avoid a shutout. The 29-year-old Cuban has hit in seven of his last eight, pushing his season average over .300. … While his defense didn’t do him any favors, Donn Roach had another rough outing. The sinker-balling righty gave up seven runs, though only two were earned, on 10 hits and a season-high four walks over five innings. Although he posted a 2-to-1 ground ball/fly ball ratio, he was tagged for three extra-base hits and a number of hard-hit singles as well. The 23-year-old has surrendered 16 unearned runs in 15 starts this season.

Prospect Watch: After surging at the end of the first half of the season, the Storm have dropped a pair of uninspired losses to begin the second half. Travis Jankowski reached base four times in five trips, but the club had no extra-base hits and struck out nine times against a quartet of 66ers pitchers with a combined ERA north of five. Jankowski now has nine multi-hit games in the month, carrying him to a 382/475/500 across 80 plate appearances.
Ft. Wayne TinCaps 3 South Bend Silver Hawks 2 in 11
Key Statistics: SS Tyler Stubblefield 2-4, HR(1), 2B Diego Goris 1-5, 2B, GW RBI; RHP Zach Eflin 5IP, 5H, 2ER, 5K, 2BB
Prospect Watch: Zach Eflin continued his run of strong starts, giving up two runs over five innings to keep his ERA since May 1 at 2.45. The 19-year-old Floridian hasn’t walked more than two in his last seven appearances, and has 32 strikeouts in his last 33 innings. … Tyler Stubblefield is making the most of his second stint in the organization, clubbing a homer as a part of a two-hit night. The 25-year-old,a 22nd-round pick in 2010, was released at the end of spring training this year. The Georgia native went out to the independent Frontier League, where he performed well. With the Padres struggling to come up with enough bodies to play the middle infield in the low end of the system, they signed Stubblefield last week.

The Memphis lefty, who received a $100,000 bonus to sign in the 11th round, has allowed two runs through his first nine professional innings while striking out nine. … Justin Livengood, one of the more interesting stories in the 2013 draft class, worked 1.2 more perfect innings of relief with three strikeouts. The 23-year-old righty walked away from the game after high school, but decided to give it a shot again after a three-year hiatus. He has struck out eight through his first 4.2 professional innings. … Guamanian first baseman Trae Santos had three of the Ems’ six hits.

Prospect Watch: While he will never be overshadowed, physically, 18-year-old righty Cam Stewart hasn’t drawn much attention since the Padres signed him as a 20th-round pick last year. However, the massive righty has all the tools to join the higher-profile high school picks who have been in Ft. Wayne this season. … Eighth-round over-slot signee Adrian DeHorta, 16th-rounder Payton Baskette and 19-year-old Australian Sam Holland made their professional debuts, combining for seven strikeouts over 3.2 scoreless innings.
