Royals to send two players to Futures Game

Billy Butler will play in his first Futures Game

MLB today announced the rosters for the eighth annual XM Satellite Radio All-Star Futures Game on July 9 in Pittsburgh, and the Royals will be well represented. Outfielder Billy Butler and third baseman Alex Gordon were both named to the American team.

Both players will make their first Futures game appearance. Billy Butler, whose .319 batting average currently ranks sixth in the Texas League, has been on a tear this month. Through June 18, Butler was hitting .375/.453/.609 with three homers in 64 June at bats. On the season, Butler has 10 home runs and 48 RBIs.

Alex Gordon joined Butler yesterday in the Texas League All-Star game, and he too will pack his bags for Pittsburgh next month. On the season, Gordon is hitting .301/.404/.511 with nine home runs and 30 RBIs in 229 at bats.

Last year's Futures Game MVP, Justin Huber, will not participate in this year's game after playing in three of the last four for the World team. Recommended Stories
