![]() Santiago was excellent for the Bees on Monday
|
The Royals' minor league affiliates on Monday bounced back from a rough weekend, as all three clubs in action won their games. Billy Butler had three hits, including his 10th home run, for the O-Royals. Behind excellent pitching by Mario Santiago and Matt Campbell, the Burlington Bees salvaged the final game of a four-game set against Clinton. AAA: Omaha 8, New Orleans 3 W: Tyler Lumsden (4-3, 5.63) HR: Billy Butler (10)
Omaha stormed out with another fierce attack offensively, teeing off against Mets top prospect Mike Pelfrey. Billy Butler led the way with three hits, including his 10th home run of the year. Joey Gathright contributed three hits as well, one of them a triple. Tyler Lumsden improved his record to 4-3 with a decent outing, he allowed three runs on seven hits in 5.2 innings. _________________________________________________________ The Wichita Wranglers were not in action on Monday. They will try to break their seven-game losing streak on Tuesday with Luke Hochevar (2-5, 5.47) on the mound. _________________________________________________________ High A: Wilmington 6, Kinston 5 W: Yovani D'Amico (3-0, 2.35)
Wilmington on Monday squeaked out with the win, as Jose Duarte scored the winning run in the top of the ninth to edge Kinston. Dan Cortes got the start and was effective for the most part, but wasn't economic with his pitches and only lasted 3.2 innings. On the season, Cortes now owns a 10.16 K/9 IP ratio. On the offensive side, Mario Lisson is pounding the ball in the month of May, owning a .892 OPS since May 1. _________________________________________________________ Low A: Burlington 3, Clinton 0 W: Matt Campbell (3-2, 3.40) HR: Jeremy Jirschele (2)
Led by spectacular pitching performances by Mario Santiago and Matt Campbell, the Bees shut out Clinton to avoid the sweep. Kurt Mertins led the Bees’ offensive attack with three hits, and Derrick Robinson chimed in with an infield single and a steal. But the story here was the pitching -- Santiago and Campbell combined for six strikeouts, and 16 of the other outs came on ground balls. Burlington will send Harold Mozingo (3-5, 4.18) to the mound to kick off a homestand on Tuesday. |
