RC Organizational Report: May 29

All the affiliates were in action on Tuesday, and three clubs won their games, with Omaha being the day's only loser. In Wichita, Luke Hochevar registered an impressive outing, and Chris Lubanski celebrated his return to the lineup with a home run. Rowdy Hardy was excellent again for Wilmington, as the Blue Rocks continued their push for a first half title. RC has all the details inside.

Billy Buckner got his first Triple-A start of the year, after coming out of the bullpen since his promotion. While he did give up three runs in four innings, he struck out six and didn't allow any free passes. Joey Gathright led the way on offense, slapping two hits and stealing three bases on the night. While Billy Butler's line may not look good (0-for-4), that can sometimes be misleading. In the first inning, Butler was robbed on a great play by the Tacoma centerfielder to take away a home run. A couple of innings later, Butler again hit the ball hard, but lined out to the third baseman.

Leo Nunez started the game to pitch an inning to begin his rehab assignment on Tuesday, allowing a run on two hits. It was Luke Hochevar's day to start, and he pitched brilliantly for 6.2 innings. He did allow four runs, but like many times this year, his defense wasn't exactly on the sharp side. Luke struck out eight batters while walking none, and although he allowed two home runs, that can certainly be attributed to the wind blowing over 30 miles per hour out to left field. Chris Lubanski was back in the lineup after missing five games with a tight hamstring, and he returned with a bang, knocking a home run in the fourth inning. Mike Stodolka had the game’s biggest hit, a grand slam to left field. Interestingly enough, the box score says that Stodolka played third base on Tuesday. Either that’s a misprint, or the Wranglers are trying to revolutionize the game by putting a lefty over at third. Probably not. Also notable was the arrival of outfielder Jake Blalock, who changed clubhouses after the Royals acquired him on Monday from the Rangers for a player to be named later. Blalock, the brother of the Rangers’ Hank Blalock, made a splash in his debut, going 2-for-4 and making a diving, game-saving catch with two on and two out in the bottom of the ninth inning.

Well this is becoming a broken record. Southpaw Rowdy Hardy dominated again, this time going eight strong innings, allowing one run on three hits and no walks while striking out six. Mario Lisson contined his May hot streak on Tuesday, going 3-for-5 with a double and a pair of RBI's. Lisson also stole his eighth base of the season.

Harold Mozingo got the start against Wisconsin on Tuesday, and threw a decent game for five innings. Jeff Bianchi did what Royals fans are expecting out of him, as he went 2-for-4 with a couple of doubles. On the season, Bianchi hasn't yet lived up to his billing, but after only 86 at bats, he has a lot of time to make up ground. Tyler Chambliss earned his third save pitching the last two innings of the game.
