Only Burlington won on Wednesday, as the Bees came out on the right side of a rare Midwest League slugfest. Kurt Mertins went 3-for-3 with his third home run to pace the Burlington offense, which racked up 10 runs in the victory. In the other games, both Carlos Rosa and Blake Johnson had lackluster outings, and Omaha was shut out by Tacoma. RC has all the details inside in today's report.

The boys from Omaha would love to forget this game and pretend it never happened. Six hitters each had one hit, and that pretty much closes the book on the offense for the O-Royals. John Bale pitched a perfect inning to continue his rehab assignment, and Gabe DeHoyos threw a scoreless inning in his Omaha debut. Billy Butler had a hit, but also made another error at first base, his fifth of the year and third at the position. _________________________________________________________

Carlos Rosa got the start on Wednesday, but he was roughed up for his second straight outing. Rosa was very good for the first four innings, only allowing four batters to reach base. However, things started going awry in the fifth inning, as Frisco hitters started to tee off on Rosa. Irving Falu, playing shortstop, went 2-for-4 and stole his ninth base of the season. _________________________________________________________

Blake Johnson got the start for Wilmington, and things didn't go as planned for the 21-year old righty. Johnson got slapped around for eight hits and six runs in 5.2 innings. Wilver Perez led the way for the Blue Rock offense, going 4-for-5 with a home run and four RBIs. Perez is absolutely on fire in May, as his OPS now sits at 1.145 in 58 at bats. Jason Godin will make his Wilmington debut on Thursday after being promoted from Burlington. _________________________________________________________

The Bees offense scored early and often on Wednesday, as five players recorded two hits or more. Jeff Bianchi, coming off a night with two hits, followed it up with another two-hit game. Chris McConnell, coming into the game with a 4-for-33 slump, contributed to the offensive attack with two hits, and he stole his ninth base of the year. The star of the night however, was Kurt Mertins. Mertins reached based five times, including a triple, a home run, and two walks. He has been particularly hot of late, batting .368 in his last 10 games.
