RC Organizational Report: May 31

The organization wrapped up the final day of May by splitting its games in the minors. Omaha won behind a brilliant start by Matt Wright, and the Burlington Bees hung on to win another close one. RC reports on all the day's minor league action inside.

The O-Royals bounced back nicely after a night to forget. Matt Wright was superb for 6.2 innings, as he allowed only five hits and one run while striking out six. Wright now owns a 0.93 ERA in his last three starts, as he tries to make a case for a call-up to the big club. Justin Huber returned from the DL and started in left field, and he went 1-for-3 on the night with a walk. Huber had not been in the lineup since May 8.

Wichita ended the month of May with a loss, finishing the month at 12-17. Mike Stodolka hit another home run on Thursday, and finished out the month with an OPS of over .900, quite a feat for the former pitcher. Irving Falu had his 10-game hitting streak snapped, but the month of May was a very successful one overall for the Wichita infielder. Falu posted an embarrassing .411 OPS in April, then bounced back strong with a OPS near .825 in May.

The Blue Rocks lost the first game of their series with Salem on Thursday, 9-5. Jason Godin made his Wilmington debut and was in for a not-so-friendly awakening. Godin got smacked around, allowing eight hits and six runs in only four innings. Mario Lisson was good again, going 2-for-5 with a stolen base, as he ended his great month of May. Julio Pimentel (3-0, 2.28) is in line for the start on Friday for Wilmington as the club opens the month of June.

In another nail biter, the Bees once again came out victorious with a win over Wisconsin, 5-4. Kurt Mertins stayed hot as he collected two more hits and a stolen base, and he is now eight for his last 11. Joe Dickerson was in center field, giving Derrick Robinson the night off. Batting from the fifth spot in the order, Dickerson went 2-for-4 with an RBI, upping his average to .264 on the year. He also stole two bases on the night, and he’s now stolen 13 on the year while only being caught three times.
