![]() Christensen was excellent in Wichita's loss
|
It was not a good day for most of the Royals' minor league system, as Burlington was the organization's only winner. Wilmington was swept away in a doubleheader, while Wichita and Omaha both wasted excellent outings by their starting pitchers en route to losses. AAA: Iowa 4, Omaha 3 (11 innings) L: Ryan Braun (0-2, 3.00) HR: Billy Butler (13), Richard Lewis (2)
Omaha fell in a heartbreaker Wednesday night to Iowa, 4-3. Southpaw Tyler Lumsden was brilliant through eight innings, allowing only four hits and one walk while striking out three. Ryan Braun came in for the save in the ninth inning, but allowed three runs to tie the game up at three. After pitching a scoreless 10th inning, Braun allowed another run in the bottom of the 11th to give Iowa the win. Billy Butler was 2-for-5 with a home run, his 13th of the season, while Mitch Maier also had a couple of hits. _________________________________________________________ AA: Springfield 2, Wichita 0 L: Danny Christensen (1-6, 5.43)
The Wranglers wasted a great pitching performance by Danny Christensen, as the offense only produced five hits in a loss to the Springfield Cardinals, 2-0. Christensen went seven innings, allowing six hits and a run while striking out four. All five hits by the Wranglers came from only three players, and Irving Falu and Geraldo Valentin each had two hits. Luke Hochevar (3-5, 4.75) will get the start on Thursday. _________________________________________________________ High A: Frederick 6, Wilmington 1 (Game 1) L: Julio Pimentel (3-3, 2.96)
Game one of the doubleheader got stopped after the fourth inning, and lasted long enough that starter Julio Pimentel had to be taken out of the game. Frederick was up 2-1 at the time the game was stopped, and then exploded for four runs in the sixth inning to cement the lead. Five Wilmington hitters each had one hit. Frederick 8, Wilmington 2 (Game 2) L: Patrick Green (0-4, 7.06)
The second game of the twin bill wasn't all the different from game one. The Blue Rock offense couldn't get the job done again, smacking only three hits in game two. Jose Duarte was 1-for-2 with a triple and a walk as the lone bright spot. Duarte is batting .412 in his last 10 games to go along with five stolen bases. Blake Johnson (3-5, 4.67) is in line for the start on Friday after an off day on Thursday. _________________________________________________________ Low A: Burlington 6, Peoria 3 W: Aaron Hartsock (3-2, 2.72), S: Chris Hayes (3) HR: Michael Thompson (13)
Burlington won its third game in a row against the Peoria Chiefs on Wednesday, taking this game, 6-3. Jeff Bianchi led the way on offense, going 3-for-4 with a couple of doubles and a walk. Matt Campbell wasn't stellar in his return to Burlington, but was picked up by reliever Aaron Hartsock in a big way, as Hartsock went three scoreless innings while only allowing one hit. Righty Harold Mozingo (5-5, 3.58) is in line for the start for the Bees on Thursday, as they hope to sweep Peoria. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
