The O-Royals avoided the sweep on Thursday night, as they defeated the Iowa Cubs 3-1. Craig Brazell kick started the offense with three doubles on the night, and Billy Butler contributed with a rare triple. Billy Buckner got the start for Omaha, and had his longest start to date with the club. Buckner lasted seven innings, allowing 11 hits but only one run, while striking out six.

Wichita got smoked on Thursday, falling to the Springfield Cardinals 11-2. Luke Hochevar was touched up for seven runs, five earned, in 4.2 innings. Despite getting stomped, the Wranglers actually nearly matched Springfield in hits, coming up short by only two hits. Jake Blalock went 1-for-4, but he’s batting only .161 since joining the Wranglers from the Rangers’ organization.

Burlington completed the four-game sweep of Peoria with an 8-6 win on Thursday night. Derrick Robinson got it going for the offense by going 2-for-5 with triple and a stolen base. Joseph Dickerson kicked in with a 3-for-5 night with a double and a stolen base. In total, the Bees stole five bases on the night, the others coming from Jeff Bianchi and two from stolen base team leader Kurt Mertins. Harold Mozingo didn't have his best stuff, and allowed six runs on seven hits in six innings of work. The bullpen picked him up nicely though, throwing three innings of scoreless ball to hold off Peoria and preserve the win.
