RC Organizational Report: June 21

It was a good day for the Royals' minor league system on Thursday, as four clubs won their games. The Idaho Falls Chukars completed a sweep, and the Wilmington offense broke out in a win over the Frederick Keys. In North Carolina, the Burlington Royals defeated the Greeneville Astros behind a pair of two-run home runs. RC recaps the rest of the day's action inside in today's minor league report.

One night after a fantastic pitching performance by Billy Buckner, the O-Royals pitching staff gave up nine runs in a 9-5 loss to New Orleans. Mitch Maier had a 2-for-5 night, and Craig Brazell went 2-for-4 with his minor league leading 25th home run. Jorge Padilla was the story of the night for Omaha, as he had a 4-for-4 night with a triple and two stolen bases.

The Wichita Wranglers offense broke out on Thursday in route to a 9-2 win over the Arkansas Travelers. Four Wichita players had at least two hits, including Chris Lubanski, who is batting .400 in his last ten games. It didn't take Kila Kaaihue a few months to get his first home run for Wichita this time around, as he belted a home run in only his fourth game with the team.

The normally quiet Wilmington Blue Rocks offense took off for eight runs on Thursday, as they defeated the Frederick Keys, 8-1. Blake Johnson and three relievers combined to one-hit the Keys, and the only run they scored was unearned. Marc Maddox has a fantastic day at the plate, smacking four hits and drawing a walk. Chris McConnell also had a great day, knocking a triple and a home run with three RBI's. Recently acquired Brad McCann hit a home run in his first at bat, which was a pinch hit appearance.

The Burlington Bees game was suspended in the fourth inning due to rain with the Bees up 4-0. Unfortunately for Mario Santiago, the rain ended his no-hit bid. Indeed, Santiago did not allow a hit through four innings, and his only blemish was one hit batter. The game will be picked up where it left off on Friday at 6:00. Harold Mozingo (6-5, 4.04) will start the regularly scheduled game, which will be a seven inning contest.

The Idaho Falls Chukars completed the sweep of Casper to start the season off 3-0. Four players had two hits, including Nick Van Stratten, who was 2-for-5 with a triple. Dane Secott, the club’s 27th round selection, got his professional debut out of the way with two scoreless innings. After a terrible debut, Ben Swaggerty dominated for three innings, allowing only one hit while striking out six to pick up his first professional save.

The Burlington Royals opened a set with the Greeneville Astros at home on Thursday, and took the victory 6-5. Bryan Paukovits, who the Royals signed this spring as a draft-and-follow, got his first professional start and went three innings while allowing two runs. Antonio Jimenez went 2-for-4 with a home run and a double, and Wilson Tucker went deep for the second consecutive night.
