RC Organizational Report: June 26

The organization had another good night, as among the five teams in action, only the Omaha Royals lost. Both the Idaho Falls Chukars and Burlington Royals continued their winning ways, while the Bees and Blue Rocks eeked out one-run victories. The Omaha Royals were turned away from a victory on Tuesday with a 6-4 loss to Oklahoma. In his first appearance on the year for Omaha, Leo Nunez was brilliant. The skinny right-hander allowed only one run on three hits in his six innings of work. However, Jason Shiell came in for relief, and after throwing a scoreless seventh inning, he allowed five runs in the eighth to give Oklahoma the lead. Mitch Maier went 1-for-4 with a walk on the night. Matt Wright (4-3, 3.76) will get the start on Wednesday as they return home after the 16-game road trip.

The Wichita Wranglers had the day off on Tuesday as part of the break for the Texas League all-star game. Luke Hochevar got the start for the North All-Stars, and went two innings while giving up two runs, but he did strike out three. Chris Lubanski went 1-for-4 with a walk, and Mike Stodolka went 2-for-4 with an RBI.

The Wilmington Blue Rocks came back with a win on Tuesday over Winston-Salem, 3-2. Four players in the Blue Rock lineup recorded two hits, including second baseman Marc Maddox, who went 2-for-5 with the game-winning RBI triple with two outs in the top of the ninth inning. Blake Johnson was the starter for Wilmington, and he gave a five-inning effort in which he allowed two runs on seven hits. Three relievers combined on four scoreless innings to nail down the victory.

The Burlington Bees didn't get much offense, but they didn't need it on Tuesday with a 2-1 win over Kane County. Mario Santiago was brilliant, allowing only two hits in seven innings. Reliever Chris Hayes gave up the tying run in bottom of the eighth, but a wild pitch helped Burlington reclaim the lead for good in the top of the 10th.

The Idaho Falls Chukars won again with a 2-1 victory over the Casper Rockies, who are 0-8 on the season. After starter Dane Secott allowed one run in three innings, the bullpen tossed six scoreless innings to help lift the Chukars to victory. Devery Van De Keere drove in both of the Chukars’ runs, one in the first inning, and the other in the third. Fifth round selection Adrian Ortiz saw his first professional action, going 1-for-4 with an infield single in the first inning.

The Burlington Royals picked up another close victory, scoring two runs in the top of the ninth to win, 5-4. Jake Lane led the offense, going 3-for-4 with a double and his first home run. Brett Amyx was 2-for-4, and so was shortstop Kyle Martin. Hard throwing Bryan Paukovits had his second appearance of the season, and this one wasn't quite as successful. The tall righty allowed three runs in 2.1 innings of work.
