RC Organizational Report: June 27

The organization split its six games on Wednesday, as only the Wichita Wraglers did not play, due to a rainout. Matt Wright twirled a fine start for the O-Royals, and the Idaho Falls Chukars stayed hot by shutting out the winless Casper Rockies. Perhaps the day’s most significant news, however, was the promotion of Chris Lubanski to Omaha. RC has all the details inside in today’s report.

The Omaha Royals improved to 38-42 on the year with a 3-1 victory over New Orleans on Wednesday. Matt Wright provided an excellent start, going six innings while allowing one run on three hits. Ryan Braun picked up his sixth save with a two inning effort. Craig Brazell launched his minor league leading 29th home run in the first inning, giving Omaha a lead they would not relinquish.

The Wichita Wranglers game on Wednesday afternoon was postponed due to rain. The Wranglers and the Corpus Christi Hooks will play two games on Thursday, and Carlos Rosa and Greg Atencio are the scheduled starters. Outfield prospect Chris Lubanski has been promoted to the Omaha Royals.

The Wilmington Blue Rocks were torched by the Lynchburg Hillcats on Wednesday, losing this one, 14-5. The Blue Rock pitching staff was doomed by home runs, allowing five in total, three off the starter Dan Cortes. Center fielder Jose Duarte went 2-for-4 with a double and his 19th stolen base of the year. Southpaw Rowdy Hardy (9-1, 1.41) is in line for the start on Thursday.

The Burlington Bees improved to 5-2 during the second half with a 9-3 spanking of Kane County. Derrick Robinson set the table by reaching base three times, and scoring each of those times, in addition to his 17th stolen base of the year (in 18 attempts). Joe Dickerson continued his hot hitting by going 2-for-4 with a ringing triple to right-center field. Ryan Di Pietro and Aaron Hartsock combined to allow only three runs to ensure the Bees a victory. Harold Mozingo (6-6, 4.44) gets the start on Thursday to complete the series.

The Idaho Falls Chukars smoked Casper on Thursday night, 8-0, to keep the Rockies winless. Adrian Ortiz and O.D. Gonzalez each had four hits for the Chukars, while three others had two hits. Nick Van Stratten contributed with a double and a triple to help fuel the offensive attack. Three pitchers combined to shut out Casper on seven hits with eight strikeouts.

The Burlington Royals lost a close game with Johnson City, 3-2. Not much offense from either side for the game, as only three Burlington players scratched out hits. Alwin Perez had the best night of the bunch, going 3-for-4 with an RBI. Antonio Jimenez went 1-for-4 with a triple, but also committed his fourth error on this young season. Joseph Augustine provided another quality outing, going five innings and allowing only two hits.

The AZL Royals lost in a tight game on Thursday afternoon, 3-2. Fourth rounder Mitch Hodge pitched very well in his second appearance of the season, giving the Royals three scoreless innings to start the ballgame. Casey Feickert recorded some outs this time around, but still gave up five hits and two runs in his two innings of work. Diego Cruz and Fernando Cruz each contributed two hits to help out the offense.
