The organization had another good day on Sunday, with all but two clubs securing victories. Behind a dominant start by Blake Johnson, the Blue Rocks moved into first place in the second half standings in the Carolina League. AAA: Oklahoma 3, Omaha 2 L: Leo Nunez (0-1, 3.27)
The Omaha Royals lost their third straight game with a 3-2 loss to Oklahoma on Sunday. Leo Nunez made his second Triple-A start of the season and allowed three runs on five hits in five innings innings. Mitch Maier and Matt Tupman each went 2-for-4 for the game. Tupman is quietly putting together a solid season for the O-Royals, batting .291 while maintaining fantastic plate discipline, drawing 28 walks while striking out only 20 times. _________________________________________________________ AA: Wichita 4, San Antonio 2 W: Danny Christensen (2-8, 5.46), S: Jason Cromer (1)
The Wichita Wranglers moved to 5-5 on the second half with a 4-2 victory over the San Antonio Missions. Danny Christensen was excellent for six innings, allowing only one run on four hits. Five Wranglers reached base at least two times, including Mike Stodolka, who despite going 0-for-1 on the game, walked two times and knocked in a run with a sacrifice fly. _________________________________________________________ High A: Wilmington 2, Salem 0 W: Blake Johnson (5-6, 4.02), S: Arthur Santos (1) HR: Kiel Thibault (2)
The Wilmington Blue Rocks moved into first place in the Carolina League Northern division with a 2-0 shutout of Salem. Blake Johnson came through with his best start of the season as he scattered three hits and struck out five in 7.2 innings. The Blue Rock offense only mustered four hits of their own, but that is all they would need to push across two runs and get the victory. _________________________________________________________ Low A: Burlington 4, Peoria 2 W: Jason Godin (2-1, 1.49), S: Chris Hayes (6)
The Burlington Bees improved to 7-4 on the second half with a 4-2 win over the Peoria Chiefs on Sunday. In his return to the Midwest League, Jason Godin dominated the opposition by going seven innings and allowing only two hits. Joe Dickerson continues his hot hitting, with a 2-for-4 game including a triple off the wall in right field. Mario Santiago (1-5, 2.49) will take the mound on Monday to close out the series with Peoria. _________________________________________________________ R-Adv: Idaho Falls 4, Ogden 2 W: Justin Phillips (1-0, 2.45)
The Idaho Falls Chukars squeaked by the Ogden Raptors on Sunday by a score of 4-2. Ben Norton and Justin Phillips combined to allow only two runs while striking out eight. Ryan Eigsti, batting in the cleanup spot, went 1-for-3 with a walk and an RBI, and he raised his average to .313 for the season. The Burlington Royals fell in 11 innings on Sunday with a 10-9 loss to Bluefield. The B-Royals loss came despite scoring eight runs in the bottom of the first inning, which was highlighted by a Neder Severino three-run homer. Jake Lane continued to hit the ball, going 2-for-3 with a double before coming out of the game. The loss was not helped by the fact that the defense made five errors, two by third baseman Antonio Jimenez. _________________________________________________________ The AZL Royals had the day off on Sunday, and will continue play on Monday at 12:30. |
