All seven clubs were in action on Monday, and the organization had another winning night, going 5-2 on the day. Wilmington extended its lead in the Carolina League's Northern Division behind an excellent start by Daniel Cortes, and the Wranglers reeled off their third straight win. The Omaha Royals broke a three game losing streak with a 9-6 victory over the Oklahoma Redbirds. John Bale tossed three innings on his rehab, and allowed three runs on five hits, though he did strike out three. Matt Wright followed with five innings, allowing two runs and striking out a season-high 10 batters. Craig Brazell and Chris Lubanski each went 2-for-4 with a home run in the win. The Wichita Wranglers won their third straight game with a 4-3 victory over San Antonio. Southpaw Dusty Hughes opened the game for the Wranglers and provided four innings of shutout ball. Damaso Espino provided the key hit on Monday, knocking a double down the right field line to drive in two runs in the third inning. The Wilmington Blue Rocks went to 9-3 on the second half with a 7-4 win over Salem. Dan Cortes provided a quality start for the Blue Rocks, going 6.2 innings while allowing three runs (two earned), and striking out seven. The Burlington Bees took the loss on the road in Peoria by the score of 4-2. Brady Everett led the offense with a 2-for-4 night including two doubles. Joe Dickerson went 1-for-4 with a double, extending his hitting streak to 10 games, the longest by an Bee this season. The Idaho Falls Chukars hammered the Ogden Raptors on Monday night with a 12-3 victory. Chris Chavez started the game for the Chukars and went five innings while allowing only two runs and striking out six. Manuel Juan helped the attack with a 3-for-6 effort, including a home run. The Burlington Royals picked up the win on Monday by the score of 3-1 over Bluefield. Bryan Paukovits made his third appearance of the year, and it was his best one to date. Paukovits went four innings and allowed one run on three hits. He was lifted for David Barnat in the fifth, who tossed five shutout innings to pick up the victory. Jake Lane continued his great hitting, going 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI. _________________________________________________________ R: Giants 8, Royals 1 L: Mitch Hodge (0-1, 0.00)
The AZL Royals were pounded on Monday afternoon with an 8-1 loss to the Giants. All was not lost in the game however, as Casey Feickert tossed two scoreless innings, and Mitch Hodge threw three innings and allowed only an unearned run. Michael Penn pitched a scoreless first inning in a rehab assignment. Seventeen-year-old catcher Salvador Perez picked up a hit in the seventh inning to knock in the only run of the game for the Royals. |
