RC Organizational Report: July 3

In a reversal of recent fortune, the Royals' system didn't have a winning night on Tuesday, as only the organization's two lowest rookie teams secured victories. Of course, both wins were big, as Burlington demolished its opponent, 16-1, and the Arizona Royals were on the winning end of a 9-0 shutout. The Omaha Royals were topped by Oklahoma on Tuesday night by a count of 8-2. Scott Elarton was torched for seven runs on 10 hits, including four home runs, in four innings of work. The O-Royals’ offense actually recorded 11 hits, but only managed to get two runs across the plate. Mitch Maier had three of those hits, and is now batting .325 in his last 10 games.

The Wichita Wranglers had the day off on Tuesday. They return to action on the road in Corpus Christi on Wednesday with Carlos Rosa (3-5, 5.24) on the mound.

The Wilmington Blue Rocks were shut out by Kinston in a 5-0 loss on Tuesday. Rowdy Hardy gave up a season-high five runs in 5.2 innings to take only his second loss of the year. Despite recording a hit, Mario Lisson is mired in a 5-for-31 slump with no extra-base hits and seven strikeouts. Tyler Chambliss is in line to make his second start for Wilmington on Wednesday.

The Burlington Bees were pounced by the Beloit Snappers on Tuesday by a score of 9-3. Joe Dickerson's 10-game hitting streak was snapped with an 0-for-2 game. Righty Harold Mozingo was the starter for the Bees, and he went five innings and allowed three runs in a losing cause. Jeff Bianchi is currently in an ugly 0-for-19 slump, and owns a .219 average on the season. Matt Kniginyzky, a 2006 Midwest League All-Star, will get his first start of the season for the Bees on Wednesday.

The Idaho Falls Chukars lost on Tuesday when the Ogden Raptors scored three runs in each the seventh and eighth innings, and the final score was 6-3. Tall lefty Burke Baldwin was spectacular for five innings, allowing only four hits and striking out three. Seven players in the Chukars lineup had one hit, enough for only three runs in the losing cause.

The Burlington Royals torched the Princeton Rays on Tuesday 16-1. Joe Augustine and Anthony Bradley combined to allow only one run and four hits. Wilson Tucker had another huge day, going 3-for-5 with a home run, and Jake Lane was 2-for-4 with a triple and a home run with three RBI's. Nicholas Doscher smacked a three-run home run in the third inning to highlight his 1-for-3 day.

The AZL Royals were led by great pitching in a 9-0 thrashing of the Athletics. Blake Wood tossed a perfect first inning in his comeback from surgery. Second round pick Samuel Runion made his professional debut and went two perfect innings, while striking out four. Danny Duffy may have been the most impressive on Tuesday afternoon, however, going 3.2 innings, allowing two hits and striking out six. On the offensive side of the spectrum, catcher Sean McCauley went 2-for-3 with two doubles and two runs scored.
