RC Organizational Report: July 8

All seven affiliates were in action on Sunday, and the organization squeaked out a winning night by going 4-3. The O-Royals came back from an early 4-0 deficit to top the Round Rock Express, and the Idaho Falls Chukars rode seven RBIs by Clint Robinson to improve their record to a Pioneer League-best 14-6. The Omaha Royals won their second straight game to finish off the first half the season, taking Sunday’s game, 5-4. The O-Royals were helped by some bad defense in the ninth inning, as a booted ball and a missed tag by the catcher sparked Round Rock’s demise. Mitch Maier reached base four times for Omaha and scored the go ahead run in the top of the ninth. Ryan Braun tossed two scoreless innings to pick up his first win of the year.

Despite outhitting their opponents 12-5, the Wichita Wranglers were downed on Sunday night, 5-1. D.J. Mattox was excellent for seven innings, and only bad defense prevented him from having a better line, as he allowed two runs on two hits. Irving Falu had three hits, but also two errors, and Kila Kaaihue had two hits for the Wranglers.

The Wilmington Blue Rocks won a close game on Sunday night, 4-3. Mario Lisson provided the go ahead run, hitting a solo shot in the top of the ninth to give Wilmington the lead. Rowdy Hardy picked up the win by tossing eight innings, allowing three runs on seven hits. Like normal, Hardy did a great job of keeping the ball on the ground, recording 18 ground ball outs to only six fly ball outs. Justin Barnes got his third save with a perfect ninth, striking out the side.

The Burlington Bees lost their second straight against Clinton with a 5-2 loss. Harold Mozingo was touched up a bit for four runs (two earned) and seven hits in four innings, although he certainly was not helped out by his defense. Brady Everett turned 24 today, and he rewarded himself by going 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI, raising his average to .303. Derrick Robinson went 1-for-4 with his 18th steal of the year.

The offense exploded for the Idaho Falls Chukars on Sunday night, slamming their way to a 17-9 victory. Leadoff hitter Adrian Ortiz led the offense with a 5-for-6 night and four runs scored. Clint Robinson went 3-for-6 with two home runs and seven RBI's, including a grand slam in the top of the ninth. In fact, of the Chukars 23 base hits, Robinson's two home runs were the only extra-base hits.

The Burlington Royals broke a four-game winning streak with a 7-4 loss at Greeneville. Starter David Bernat was good for five innings, allowing only two runs. However, Bryan Paukovits came into the game and allowed five runs in his three innings of work. Patrick Norris and Jose Santos led the way for the B-Royals offense, going 2-for-5 and 2-for-3 with a home run, respectively.

The AZL Royals won in a close game on Sunday afternoon, 2-1. Michael Penn made the start in a rehab assignment, tossing three innings of one-hit ball. Second round pick Sam Runion threw the next three innings, allowing three hits while striking out five. Hilton Richardson scored what would be the winning run in the top of the ninth in after walking earlier that inning. Royal relievers made it interesting in the bottom of the ninth, but Eric Van Slyke came in and shut the door with a strikeout to end the game.
