Only four clubs were in action on Wednesday, but all four emerged victorious in a perfect night for the Royals' organization. Wilmington got another excellent start from Julio Pimentel, and the Idaho Falls Chukars remained the "Nick Van Stratten and Clint Robinson Show," as both streaking players launched home runs for the Pioneer League leaders. The Omaha Royals had the day off as part of the All-Star break. Craig Brazell went 1-for-2 with a home run for the PCL All-Stars in a losing cause. A four-run third inning propelled the Wichita Wranglers to a 5-2 win over Springfield on Wednesday night. Mike Stodolka, who went 2-for-3 on the night, was right in the middle of that four-run inning, contributing an RBI single. Greg Atencio was excellent once again in his start, allowing two runs in 5.2 innings of work. Since moving to the rotation on June 16, Atencio has allowed only nine earned runs in 30.1 innings pitched. _________________________________________________________ High A: Wilmington 6, Potomac 1 W: Julio Pimentel (6-3, 2.48)
The Wilmington Blue Rocks improved to 14-5 in the second half with a 6-1 pounding of Potomac. Julio Pimentel was excellent once again, allowing one run on four hits in seven innings. Pimentel has gone at least 6.2 innings in each of his last four outings, and allowed one run in each of them. Marc Maddox, who went 1-for-4, was in the middle of the action with a two-run triple in the bottom of the fifth inning. _________________________________________________________ The Burlington Bees had the day off on Wednesday. The Idaho Falls Chukars blasted their way to a 7-2 victory on Wednesday night, improving their Pioneer League leading record to 16-6. Nick Van Stratten led the way with a 2-for-3 effort, which included a two-run home run in the eighth inning. Van Stratten also walked and stole two bases on the night. Clint Robinson slugged his fifth home run of the season, which ties for the Pioneer League lead in that department. _________________________________________________________ R-Adv: Burlington 7, Bristol 6 (13 innings) W: Ted Gjeldum (2-0, 6.10)
The Burlington Royals pulled out an exciting win with a 7-6 victory over Bristol in 13 innings. Antonio Jimenez was a big part of the victory, going 3-for-7 and knocking in the game winning run in the bottom of the 13th. Alex Caldera, the club’s 13th round pick this year, tossed 4.2 innings, allowing three runs on five hits while striking out five. _________________________________________________________ The AZL Royals had the day off on Wednesday.
