![]() Antonio Jimenez belted a homer for the B-Royals
|
One day after a perfect night, the organization had a rough day in the minors. Six clubs were in action on Thursday, but only the Omaha Royals and Burlington Royals managed victories. In Burlington, outfielder Wilson Tucker hit his league-leading sixth home run, and the O-Royals, in a game televised by RSTN, won their game in extra innings. RC has all the details inside in today's report.

AAA: Omaha 4, Iowa 3 (11 innings) W: Ryan Braun (2-2, 1.40) HR: Derek Wathan (2)
An RBI infield single in the bottom of the 11th by Paul Phillips propelled the Omaha Royals to a 4-3 win over the Iowa Cubs. The O-Royals were held scoreless until the bottom of the eighth, when Derek Wathan blasted a three-run homer over the right field wall. Leo Nunez and Ryan Braun held down the fort for three scoreless innings that helped the O-Royals pick up the win. _________________________________________________________ AA: Springfield 6, Wichita 3 L: Gilbert De la Vara (0-1, 9.00)
The Wichita Wranglers fell to Springfield on Thursday afternoon, 6-3. Carlos Rosa was excellent for five innings, as he allowed one run on five hits while striking out six. Gilbert de la Vara immediately blew the game when he came into the ballgame in the sixth inning, allowing three runs that inning to give Springfield the lead for good. _________________________________________________________ High A: Potomac 8, Wilmington 2 L: Tyler Chambliss (2-1, 7.07)
The Wilmington Blue Rocks fell to Potomac on Thursday night, 8-2. Starter Tyler Chambliss was smacked around for five runs in three innings, and he didn't help himself by walking three. Kiel Thibault went 2-for-3 with a double, and had one of Wilmington's two RBI's. Dan Cortes (1-6, 4.03) will start on Friday night for the Blue Rocks. _________________________________________________________ The Burlington Bees had the day off on Thursday. They will return to action on Friday at Great Lakes to kick off an eight-game road trip. _________________________________________________________ R-Adv: Helena 6, Idaho Falls 3 L: Ben Norton (1-1, 0.41) HR: Todd Balduf (1)
The Idaho Falls Chukars lost 6-3 on Thursday night despite an excellent start from Ben Norton, the Royals' 24th round pick this year. Norton allowed only two hits in 5.2 innings, allowing one run due to an error, and he struck out four. Adrian Ortiz had two hits, including a double, to raise his average to .347. Nick Van Stratten went 1-for-4 with a triple to bring his current hitting streak to six games. _________________________________________________________ R-Adv: Burlington 5, Bristol 3 W: Eduardo Paulino (2-1, 4.24), S: Jimmy Rollins (2) HR: Wilson Tucker (6), Antonio Jimenez (3), Brett Amyx (2)
Jumpstarted by three home runs, the Burlington Royals took a 5-3 victory over Bristol on Thursday night. Wilson Tucker and Antonio Jimenez went back-to-back with solo shots in the bottom of the second, and Brett Amyx belted a two-run shot in the fourth. Tucker now leads the Appy League with six home runs. Starter Eduardo Paulino went five innings and allowed two runs while striking out a season-high eight batters. _________________________________________________________ R: Rangers 10, Royals 8 L: Ivor Hodgson (0-1, 4.50) HR: Fernando Cruz (1)
Errors came back to haunt the AZL Royals as they fell to the Rangers, 10-8. Mitch Hodge got the start for the Royals, going five innings and allowing six hits and four runs (three earned). However, that line would have been better with a good defense behind him and some better official scorekeeping. The official scorer generously awarded Rangers catcher Bret Story an infield single on a ball Fernando Cruz should have had in the third inning, and later in the inning, Andres Blanco booted what would have been an easy inning-ending double play. Then, with the bases loaded, right fielder Astin Jacobo let all three runs score when a single bounced past him for another error. At the plate, Fernando Cruz launched his first home run of his pro career, a line shot over the right field wall. Diego Cruz went 2-for-5 and has at least two hits in five of his last 10 games.
