RC Organizational Report: July 19

Once again, the organization on Thursday had a tough night, as the seven clubs combined to go 2-5 on the evening. Over in Wilmington, ace Rowdy Hardy twirled his second complete game victory of the season, while the Arizona Royals shut out the Cubs behind some stellar pitching by 14th rounder Matt Mitchell. The Omaha Royals lost their second straight and three out of four to Albuquerque, 5-1. Billy Buckner was a little too hittable, allowing 10 hits and five runs (four earned) in six innings on Thursday night. Neal Musser tossed a scoreless inning to keep his incredible ERA in Triple-A at 0.00. The infamous Angel Berroa returned from the disabled list and went 2-for-3 with a home run.

The Wichita Wranglers lost in a heartbreaker on Thursday, 1-0. Dusty Hughes tossed six shutout innings before giving way to Jason Cromer, who pitched a scoreless seventh inning. Cromer then allowed walk and a hit in the eighth, and gave way to Wichita's ace reliever Jarod Plummer. The 6-foot-5 righty immediately gave up a hit to yield Springfield the 1-0 lead before recording the final two outs of the inning. The Wranglers’ offense pounded out 10 hits, but nobody crossed the plate.

The Wilmington Blue Rocks won 8-3 on Thursday afternoon behind another great start by ace Rowdy Hardy. The tall southpaw tossed a complete game, allowing three runs on seven hits. Mario Lisson led the offense with a 2-for-4 game and three RBI's, along with his 14th stolen base of the season. Chris McConnell also got in on the action, reaching base twice and scoring each time.

Despite recording only one less hit, the Burlington Bees were beaten badly on Thursday night, 9-2. Derrick Robinson had two hits and a walk, but was caught stealing for the third time this year. Jamar Walton had a 2-for-4 night with a double, and is batting a cool .367 in his last 10 games. Brady Everett saw his hitting streak climb to six games with two hits on the night.

The Idaho Falls Chukars got shut out in the first game of their seven-game road trip, 8-0. Starter Chris Chavez was smacked around for seven runs in 3.2 innings. However, only three of those runs were earned, thanks to some unspectacular defense. The Royals’ 27th round pick, Dane Secott, tossed 2.1 scoreless innings with a strikeout.

The Burlington Royals lost their third straight game to the visiting Danville Braves, 3-2. The B-Royals pitching was excellent, outside of Henry Arias giving up Danville's only three runs in the first two innings of the game. David Lough went 2-for-4, and he has hit safely in all but one game he has played this season. Kyle Martin hit his fourth home run to knock in the B-Royals’ only two runs of the game.

The AZL Royals defeated the Cubs 2-0 behind some stellar pitching. Matthew Mitchell, the Royals' 14th round pick this year, went six innings, allowed only two hits, and struck out nine. Williams Farinas went the next 2.1 innings, allowing only two hits in his time, and Eric Van Slyke got the final two outs on a double play to put the game away. Fernando Cruz went 2-for-4, his first hit coming off former Cubs ace Kerry Wood.
