RC Organizational Report: July 23

Wichita's game against Tulsa was cancelled due to the tragic death of Drillers coach Mike Coolbaugh. The six clubs that were in action on Monday combined to go 3-3 on the day. The Bees' Jason Godin pitched brilliantly, leading Burlington to victory, and both the AZ Royals and Idaho Falls Chukars won as well. RC has all the details inside in today's minor league report.

The Omaha Royals lost the series finale against Memphis on Monday afternoon, 3-1. Leo Nunez made his first start since returning from the big club, and he allowed three runs in his five innings of work. Mitch Maier and Shane Costa each had two hits, and Costa now has a nine-game hitting streak. Joey Gathright reached base twice, but was picked off after a walk in the first inning.

The Wichita Wranglers game against Tulsa on Monday was postponed. The decision was made due to the tragic death of Tulsa coach Mike Coolbaugh.

The Wilmington Blue Rocks lost 6-4 on Monday night. Starter Dan Cortes was roughed up to the tune of six runs in four innings. The Blue Rocks did crank out six more hits than their opponents in the loss however, and Jose Duarte had three of those hits, including a double. Mario Lisson had a 2-for-4 with an RBI to bring his average back up to .260.

The Burlington Bees won 3-1 behind some excellent pitching on Monday night. Jason Godin got the start for the Bees, and tossed seven innings of one-run ball, allowing only four hits and striking out five. Matt Campbell and Aaron Hartsock finished it off with a combined two scoreless innings. Brady Everett had two of the Bees' nine hits, and knocked in one of the runs.

The Idaho Falls Chukars won 7-1 on Monday night behind the excellent offensive performance of O.D. Gonzalez. The 23-year-old outfielder went 3-for-5 with two home runs and four RBI's on the night. Clint Robinson hit a solo home run in the ninth, and is second in the Pioneer League with six home runs. Ben Norton recovered nicely from an ugly outing in his last start, going four innings and allowing only one run, which was unearned.

The Burlington Royals rolled to a 6-3 victory on Monday night. David Lough and Jake Lane both had two hits, and they also each had a double and two RBI's. Patrick Norris reached base three times, once each by walk, hit, and error. Wilson Tucker, the B-Royals outfielder, was listed as having tossed a scoreless inning in relief, but after checking with our sources, RC has learned this was simply a typo.

The AZL Royals were defeated on Monday afternoon, 7-5. Sam Runion was touched up for 10 hits and six runs in 3.1 innings of work. Ivor Hodgson fared better, as he allowed only one run in his three innings. Royals first baseman David Wood went 4-for-4 with two doubles and an RBI, and raised his average to .362.
