Two of the Royals' affiliates had the night off on Thursday, but the clubs that were in action didn't fare very well. In fact, only the Omaha Royals, who swept a doubleheader, won on Thursday, thanks to solid starts by both Luke Hochevar and Tyler Lumsden. The Omaha Royals won the first game of their doubleheader, 4-2. Luke Hochevar gave the O-Royals a nice outing, going six innings and allowing only two runs. Neal Musser struck out the side in the seventh to pick up the save and keep his ERA in Omaha at 0.00. Joey Gathright continued to make Triple-A pitching look silly, going 2-for-4 with a triple, bumping his average up to .341. Omaha 7, Salt Lake 3 (Game 2) W: Tyler Lumsden (7-5, 6.25), S: Ryan Braun (8)
The Omaha Royals completed the sweep of the doubleheader with a 7-3 win in the nightcap. Tyler Lumsden had his second good start in a row, going 5.2 innings and allowing two earned runs this time around. Ryan Braun got the final four outs to pick up the save. Justin Huber had three hits, including a ground-rule double over the center field wall in the seventh inning. _________________________________________________________ AA: Springfield 8, Wichita 4 L: D.J. The Wichita Wranglers lost 8-4 despite having just as many hits as their opponents. Starter D.J. Mattox allowed seven runs on seven hits in less than five innings, putting the game out of reach early. Adam Donachie and Jeff Nettles went deep for the Wranglers, their sixth and fourth homers, respectively. Irving Falu followed up a two-hit night on Wednesday with another two hits on Thursday evening. _________________________________________________________ High A: Kinston 7, Wilmington 5 (10 innings) L: Yovani D'Amico (4-1, 4.25)
The Wilmington Blue Rocks were downed in extra innings on Thursday night, 7-5. Starter Julio Pimentel was excellent for the first 6.2 innings, allowing only three runs on five hits. Rayner Oliveros couldn't keep the lead however, allowing two runs in the top of the eighth to tie the game at five. Brett Bigler and Kiel Thibault each had three hits for the Blue Rocks offensive attack. _________________________________________________________ Low A: Quad Cities 14, Burlington 6 L: Ryan Di Pietro (5-7, 5.09) HR: Michael Thompson (17)
The Burlington Bees were stomped 14-6 on Thursday evening. Every pitcher the Bees ran out surrendered at least two runs, and two of them allowed five runs. On the other side of the ball, Jamar Walton stayed hot with a 2-for-4 night, and has reached base safely in nine of his last 10 games. _________________________________________________________ The Idaho Falls Chukars were off on Thursday, and open a six-game home stand on Friday night against the Orem Owlz. _________________________________________________________ R-Adv: Danville 8, Burlington 0 L: Henry Arias (2-2, 5.93)
The Burlington Royals were shut out 8-0 on Thursday evening. Danville pitching combined for 15 strikeouts on the night, and eight Burlington batters recorded one strikeout or more. Only one batter reached third base for the B-Royals, after back-to-back hits in the bottom of the ninth by Wilson Tucker and Jose Santos. _________________________________________________________ The AZL Royals were not in action on Thursday. They will return to play on Friday, with their first game under the lights. |
