RC Organizational Report: July 31

The organization split its six games on Tuesday, as the Wichita Wranglers, Wilmington Blue Rocks, and Idaho Falls Chukars all emerged victorious. The Blue Rocks won behind another great start from Julio Pimentel, while in Burlington, the Bees turned their first triple play in exactly one year. The Omaha Royals lost 11-6 on Tuesday night even though they outhit their opponent, the Colorado Springs Sky Sox, 14-13. Luke Hochevar was shelled for nine runs in less than five innings of work, as he allowed three home runs and several deep fly balls. Ryan Shealy did provide a bright spot however, going 3-for-4 with a double and a home run on his quest to return to the big leagues.

The Wichita Wranglers won the first game of their 13-game road trip, 9-5. Wichita got on the board immediately with five runs in the first inning, highlighted by Kila Kaaihue's three-run shot to left field. Mike Stodolka reached base four times, including a double to left field, in the Wranglers victory.

The Wilmington Blue Rocks won their second game in a row over Potomac on Tuesday, 7-3. Julio Pimentel dominated the Potomac lineup, as the 6-foot-1 righty allowed three hits and a run over seven innings. Seventeen of the outs Pimentel recorded were on the ground, compared to only two through the air. Every player in the Blue Rock lineup had at least one hit, and seven players had at least two hits. Jose Duarte had three hits for the team, including a double.

The Burlington Bees lost game two of their series with Kane County, 4-2. Daniel Gutierrez made his debut for the Bees, allowing one run on one hit in 3.1 innings of work. The Bees' offense only picked up four hits along the way, and didn't score until Michael Thompson's two-run blast in the eighth inning. Joe Dickerson went 0-for-3 on the night, but was plunked in the fourth inning and extended his on-base streak to 34 games, tying Irving Falu for the franchise record. The third inning provided the big play of the game. With runners at first and second, Kane County batter Mike Massaro lined to Thompson at third on a hit-and-run. Thompson then tossed the ball to Kurt Mertins at second, who then threw to Luis Castillo at first to complete a triple play. Oddly enough, the Bees' last triple play was turned exactly one year ago, on July 31, 2006.

The Idaho Falls Chukars and their counterparts, the Ogden Raptors, only managed to get three hits apiece, but the Chukars came out on top, 4-0. Zach Peterson and Burke Baldwin shut down the Ogden lineup by only allowing six base runners the whole game, two of which came by error. Adrian Ortiz created a run with his speed in the fourth inning, and Clint Robinson launched a three-run home run to left field.

The Burlington Royals lost 6-4 on Tuesday evening against the Bristol Sox. Starter Henry Arias allowed six runs in three innings, giving Bristol an insurmountable lead. Leadoff hitter Alwin Perez went deep twice, bringing his season total to four after not hitting any home runs last year in the Arizona Rookie League.
