![]() Justin Huber is heating up for the O-Royals
|
One day after the organization posted a perfect 7-0 record, success was fleeting on Monday night, as the Royals' minor league clubs managed only a 3-4 record. Indeed, only Omaha, Arizona, and the Burlington Bees won their games, but there were some notable performances throughout the organization. RC has all the details inside in today's minor league report. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

AAA: Omaha 4, Memphis 2 W: Matt Wright (9-3, 3.69), S: Nate Hoelscher (2) HR: Justin Huber (14), Angel Berroa (6)
The Omaha Royals got over the .500 mark with a 4-2 win over Memphis. A good chunk of the offense came from an unlikely source, Angel Berroa, who went 4-for-4 with a home run. Justin Huber also went deep in a 2-for-4 effort, and now has 14 home runs on the year. Matt Wright picked up his ninth win by tossing 7.1 innings of one-run ball. Wright's 3.69 ERA ranks fifth among eligible pitchers in the PCL. _________________________________________________________ AA: Frisco 7, Wichita 3 L: Greg Atencio (4-7, 5.29)
The Wichita Wranglers lost 7-3 on Monday evening. Greg Atencio, who has struggled mightily in his past few appearances, pitched poorly again on Monday, allowing seven runs in five innings of work. Justin Barnes tossed two hitless innings in his Double-A debut. Mike Stodolka, who has been playing some left field the past few weeks, went 1-for-2 with a walk. _________________________________________________________ High-A: Potomac 7, Wilmington 5 L: Arthur Santos (0-2, 3.80) HR: Brian McFall (12)
A ninth inning comeback by Potomac gave the Wilmington Blue Rocks a 7-5 loss on Monday. Despite the loss, Dan Cortes gave the Blue Rocks an excellent start, tossing five scoreless innings and striking out six. In his last four starts, Cortes has pitched 23 innings, striking out 20 and allowing only two earned runs. Rayner Oliveros immediately blew Cortes' strong effort however, allowing four home runs in an inning of work. Wilmington reclaimed the lead with four runs in the top of the eighth, but Arthur Santos allowed three runs in the bottom of the ninth to give Potomac the win. _________________________________________________________ Low-A: Burlington 7, Dayton 3 W: Everett Teaford (5-8, 5.10), S: Angelo Morales (2) HR: Jeff Bianchi (2)
The Burlington Bees pounded out 13 hits in a 7-3 win over Dayton. Jeff Bianchi went 2-for-4 with a walk and a home run, his second homer of the year. It's late in the year for the minor leagues, but Bianchi is finally starting to get hot, batting .364 with five walks in his last 10 games. Derrick Robinson went 2-for-5 with a double and two RBI's, but also struck out twice. Angelo Morales picked up the save with three no-hit innings, and has allowed only seven hits in 22.1 innings this year. _________________________________________________________ R-Adv: Great Falls 8, Idaho Falls 3 L: Joseph Hughes (0-1, 4.60) HR: Ryan Eigsti (2)
The Idaho Falls Chukars walked away on the losing end of the game on Monday night, 8-3. Starter John Leonard gave the Chukars five innings of one-run ball before giving way to the bullpen. However, Joseph Hughes couldn't hold the lead, giving up six runs without recording an out in the sixth inning. Ryan Eigsti batted in the cleanup spot on Monday, and responded by blasting his second home run of the season. _________________________________________________________ R-Adv: Kingsport 7, Burlington 6 L: Anthony Bradley (2-2, 2.38) HR: Jake Lane (5)
Two critical errors by Antonio Jimenez did the Burlington Royals in on Monday, 7-6. Ryan Belanger came in for the eighth inning with the B-Royals down by one, but a fielding and throwing error by Jimenez allowed two unearned runs to cross the plate, which ended up being just enough for the Kingsport victory. Patrick Norris went 1-for-3 with two more walks, his 31st and 32nd of the season. _________________________________________________________ R: Royals 12, Padres 6 W: Matthew Mitchell (4-1, 2.36), S: Josh Santerre (1)
The AZL Royals came out of the gates fast and never looked back in a 12-6 win over the Padres. Williams Farinas was roughed up for five runs in 1.1 innings, but that was the only thing that went wrong on this night for the Royals. Matthew Mitchell came in for the next 3.2 innings, shutting down the Padres offense and striking out five. Diego Cruz continued his hot hitting with a 3-for-6 night, which included three RBI's. Cruz is batting .378 in his last 10 games to go along with 11 RBI's. |
