![]() David Wood had another big day for the AZ Royals
|
Both the Omaha Royals and Burlington Royals had their games rained out, but the five remaining teams combined for a winning night behind a pair of impressive pitching performances. Blake Johnson had a stellar start for the Blue Rocks before being removed in the sixth inning due to an apparent injury, while Sam Runion pitched masterfully in Arizona. The Omaha Royals game was postponed due to heavy thunderstorms on Wednesday. _________________________________________________________ AA: Wichita 6, Arkansas 5 W: Gabe DeHoyos (5-0, 1.54) HR: Jorge Padilla (9), Kila Kaaihue (8)
The Wichita Wranglers stormed back with three runs in the eighth and won in extra innings on Wednesday, 6-5. Kila Kaaihue led the attack with two hits -- a double and a home run -- and two walks. His home run came in the 10th inning and won the game for the Wranglers. Adam Donachie pitched in with a key two-run single in the eighth inning. Jorge De La Rosa made the start in a rehab appearance, allowing a run (unearned) in two innings. _________________________________________________________ High-A: Wilmington 5, Myrtle Beach 2 W: Blake Johnson (8-6, 3.30) HR: Brian McFall (13)
The Wilmington Blue Rocks improved the second half lead to five games with a 5-2 win over Myrtle Beach. Blake Johnson dominated for 5.2 innings, allowing two hits and walking two while striking out four before being removed due to an apparent injury. Johnson lowered his ERA to 3.30, and among qualifying starters in the Carolina League, the Blue Rocks now hold the top three in that department in Rowdy Hardy (1st), Julio Pimentel (2nd), and Johnson (3rd). Brian McFall carried the offense with a 2-for-3 night, which included his 13th home run of the year. _________________________________________________________ The Burlington Bees game was postponed on Wednesday due to rain. They will play a doubleheader on Thursday to make up the game. _________________________________________________________ R-Adv: Billings 9, Idaho Falls 4 L: Clegg Snipes (2-5, 4.89) HR: Anthony Seratelli (9)
The Idaho Falls Chukars walked away with a 9-4 loss on Wednesday. The Chukars were out of the game quickly, as Billings scored six runs in the top of the first and never looked back. That didn't hinder the red hot Clint Robinson however, as he picked up two more hits, one of which was a double. Wilson Tucker also picked up a hit, and has gotten a hit in all four of his games with the Chukars thus far, including a 5-for-5 night on Tuesday. _________________________________________________________ R-Adv: Elizabethton 3, Burlington 0 L: George Biddle (3-1, 4.15)
The Burlington Royals were shut out on Wednesday, 3-0. The B-Royals offense only managed to get six hits, and they never managed to even get a runner to third base. Yeldrys Molina had two of those hits, and is now carrying a little four-game hitting streak. _________________________________________________________ R: Royals 8, Cubs 5 W: Sam Runion (3-3, 5.44) HR: David Wood 2 (3)
The AZL Royals improved to 14-8 on the second half with an 8-5 win over the Cubs. Sam Runion put together his best start of the season, going six scoreless innings and allowing two hits while striking out six. David Wood clubbed two home runs on a 4-for-4 night for the first baseman. Fernando Cruz had two hits and a walk on the night. |
