RC Organizational Report: August 28

The organization split its six games on Tuesday, as the Blue Rocks, Chukars and AZ Royals all emerged victorious. In Wilmington, Dan Cortes had another outstanding start for the Blue Rocks. The Burlington Royals were the first club to finish its season, ending the year with a 38-30 record, good for second place. RC has all the details inside in today's minor league report.

The Omaha Royals gave up five runs in the second, and Nashville never looked back as they cruised and beat the O-Royals, 7-3. Justin Huber went deep for the second night in a row in a 2-for-3 effort, and he now has 17 home runs on the season. However, that was about it for the rest of the Royals’ offense, as the rest of the lineup combined for only one hit.

The Wichita Wranglers were handed a loss on Tuesday night, 5-4. Daniel Christensen was beat around for five runs on five hits in 6.2 innings of work, giving up three home runs in the process. The Wranglers made it interesting by scoring two runs in the top of the ninth, but it wasn't enough as they lost in the series opener with Springfield.

Behind some stellar pitching, the Wilmington Blue Rocks breezed to a 5-2 win over Lynchburg. Dan Cortes tossed seven shutout innings for the second straight time, this time limiting the opposition to only two hits while striking out six. Brad McCann got the offense going early with a three-run shot in the first inning, and the Blue Rocks took the lead and ran with it. Brian McFall kept his August OPS north of 1.000 with a 2-for-4 night, which included two doubles and a stolen base.

The Burlington Bees lost in extra innings on Tuesday, 4-3. Daniel Gutierrez gave the Bees a strong start, allowing three runs (two earned) over seven innings on the day. Burlington's offense didn't do much until the eighth inning, when a Derrick Robinson two-run homer got them on the board. They then tied the game at three in the ninth with a double by Michael Thompson, scoring Jeff Bianchi. However, reliever Henry Barrera gave up a run in the 10th, and that gave Quad Cities the 4-3 win.

It took 15 innings, but the Idaho Falls Chukars came out victorious with a 6-5 win. Anthony Seratelli provided the walk-off RBI double, scoring Devery Van De Keere after he walked to open the inning. Kyle Martin was promoted to Idaho Falls yesterday, and he responded with a 2-for-6 night with a double in his first action with the Chukars. Clint Robinson went 2-for-5.

The Burlington Royals season finished up on Monday, as they finished the season with a 38-30 mark, good for second place in the Appalachian League Eastern division. Anthony Bradley (2-2, 2.09) was named B-Royals pitcher of the year, while Wilson Tucker (.298/.341/.488) was named player of the year.

The AZL Royals shut out the Brewers on Tuesday night, 3-0. Matthew Mitchell, recently named AZL Royals pitcher of the year, started and tossed four scoreless innings, allowing one hit and striking out seven. Williams Farinas relieved him, throwing 4.2 innings scoreless innings of his own. Sean McCauley drove in one of the Royals’ three runs with an RBI double to left field in the second inning.
