Omaha struggled to get the bats going Wednesday, scoring just two runs on three hits against former Royals farmhand Billy Buckner in the O-Royals’ 4-2 defeat. Alex Gordon went 1-for-2 with a double and two walks, but singles by Marc Maddox and David Lough were the only other hits for Omaha.
O-Royals starter Bryan Bullington scattered seven hits and two walks across seven innings while allowing two runs. Luis Mendoza relieved him and was only able to get two outs in the eighth, surrendering two runs on four hits while getting tagged with his second loss of the season.
Omaha plays the third game of its four-game series Thursday night against the Aces.

The Blue Rocks took advantage of their opportunities, getting eight runs on eight hits in their victory over the Hillcats. Adrian Ortiz went 2-for-3 with a walk, and Fernando Garcia went 2-for-4. Anthony Seratelli hit a double and knocked in three runs. Eric Hosmer saw his five-game hitting streak snapped, finishing 0-for-3 with a pair of walks.
Starter Ivor Hodgson pitched just three innings, allowing three runs on four hits. Harold Mozingo earned the victory by throwing the next three frames, giving up two runs on three hits and two walks. Patrick Keating earned his third save of the year, pitching one-hit ball over the final three innings.
The Blue Rocks, winners of three of their last five games, can win their four-game series against Lynchburg with a victory in the finale of their four-game series on Thursday.
