Melville was dominant again on Monday

While much of Royals fans' attention was focused on the draft Monday, the farm system quietly had another good day. The Omaha Royals prevailed on a walk-off single by Alex Gordon, while the Wilmington Blue Rocks rode another stellar outing by Tim Melville to a 5-0 shutout win. Alex Gordon singled in bottom of the 11th, driving in Irving Falu and leading Omaha past Oklahoma City, 3-2. Gordon was 3-for-5 on the day, and Falu went 2-for-6 with a triple. Jai Miller connected on a double and drove in a runner, while Kila Ka'aihue went 1-for-3 with two walks.

Bryan Bullington started and threw 3.2 innings, allowing two runs on four hits while walking four batters. The bullpen saved the game, however, as Federico Castaneda, Blaine Hardy, and Matt Herges combined to shut out the RedHawks over the final 7.1 innings, only allowing four hits.

Omaha plays the final game of their series against Oklahoma City Tuesday afternoon.

The Naturals' offense struggled to bring runners across the plate Tuesday, stranding 11 men in their 2-1 loss to the Rock Hounds. Mike Moustakas and Clint Robinson both went 2-for-5 on the day, but Tim Smith and Anthony Seratelli were the only other Naturals to record hits.

Martio Santiago pitched six innings, allowing two runs, one earned, on seven hits. Rowdy Hardy and Chris Chavez no-hit Midland over the final three innings, but the Naturals left the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth to end the game.

The Naturals have an off-day Tuesday before hitting the road to face the Arkansas Travelers.

Tim Melville pitched six shutout innings, earning his second win of the year as the Blue Rocks defeated the Indians 5-0. Melville allowed just two hits and two walks while ringing up seven hitters. That marks five straight solid outings for the 20-year-old right-hander after a rough start to his 2010 season. Buddy Baumann threw three perfect innings in relief, earning his fourth save of the season.

On offense, Jamie Romak went 3-for-4 with a double, extending his hitting streak to 15 games. Rey Navarro was 2-for-4 with an RBI and run scored, and Nick Francis collected a double and drove in a run. Eric Hosmer was 1-for-3 with a walk and an RBI, extending his own hitting streak to seven games.

Wilmington plays the second game of their series against Kinston Tuesday night.
