Sample picked up his third win on Wednesday

The Royals' organization closed out June with a successful day on Wednesday, as four of the five affiliates in action won their games. The Burlington Bees won behind a strong start by Tyler Sample, while Luis Piterson's hot bat propelled the Burlington Royals to another victory. Editor's note: The Omaha Royals were off on Wednesday. Ten NW Arkansas Naturals participated in the Texas League All-Star Game for the North Division squad, which lost to the South, 5-4. Every Naturals position player in the game collected at least one hit – in fact, the Naturals accounted for 11 of the North's 14 hits, with Mike Moustakas, Clint Robinson, Tim Smith, and Johnny Giavotella each collecting two base knocks apiece. Robinson hit the game's only home run, a solo shot in the second inning. On the mound, Mario Santiago, Brandon Sisk, and Louis Coleman combined for 2.2 perfect innings.

High-A: Lynchburg 4, Wilmington 1

L: Tim Melville (2-9, 5.74)

Tim Melville struggled Wednesday, allowing four runs, four hits and four walks in just four innings as Blue Rocks lost 4-1 to the Hillcats. James Thompson and Henry Barrera combined to shut out Lynchburg over the final five innings, but Wilmington could not mount a comeback. On offense, Adrian Ortiz went 2-for-4 with a triple, while Jamie Romak also had a multi-hit game. Christian Colon failed to record a hit in his second game, going 0-for-4 with two strikeouts.

The Blue Rocks continue their series against the Hillcats Thursday.

The Bees jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning and held on to defeat the Chiefs, 5-4. Rene Oriental went 1-for-3, drawing a walk and driving in two runs, while Carlo Testa and Jose Bonilla collected the other RBIs for Burlington. Tyler Sample earned the victory with a quality start, allowing three runs on five hits while ringing up six batters in six innings of work. Ryan Dennick pitched a scoreless 1.1 innings to record his third save of the season.

The Bees continue their homestand Thursday with a three-game series against the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers.

The Chukars scored three runs over the final three innings, coming back to defeat the Ghosts, 4-2. Murray Watts went 2-for-3 with an RBI and a walk, and Tim Ferguson was 2-for-4. Starting pitcher Starling De La Rosa held Casper scoreless for the first five innings. Santiago Garrido earned the win with three innings of relief, while Alex Rivers pitched a shutout ninth for his first save on the season.

Luis Piterson bashed a grand slam Wednesday, powering the Burlington Royals past the Bluefield Orioles, 7-2. Piterson finished with two hits and five RBIs on the day, while Ryan Stovall and Alex McClure both had multi-hit games. Willian Avinazar threw five innings, allowing one run on two hits while fanning seven batters. Josh Worrell followed Avinazar, throwing two perfect innings, and Chas Byrne finished the game, allowing a solo home run in the ninth.

The Royals continue their series against the Orioles Thursday.

Jin-Ho Shin smacked his first career home run and drew two walks, helping lead the AZL Royals past the AZL Mariners 4-2. Seth Furmanek went 2-for-3 with a double, while Darian Sandford also had a multi-hit game. Rehabbing Shane Costa played in his first game of 2010, finishing 1-for-4. Brennon Martin earned the victory, allowing two run on four hits in five innings while punching out six batters. Jordan Roualdes and Tyler Gatrell held the Mariners scoreless for the final four innings to end the game.

The AZL Royals face the AZL Athletics Thursday night.
